    Each year, we offer a Citizens’ Water Academy during the months of January - March. The goal of the Academy is to educate environmental stewards, who understand the importance of planning for a safe and sustainable water future and will advocate for protecting our shared water supply in their communities.

Our River

The Catawba-Wateree River

It's the water source for two million people. It supports a thriving economy where the demand for water is expected to double. It generates enough power for 3.7 million homes. It provides recreation, a diverse ecosystem, and an elevated quality of life to people in a nearly 5,000 square mile region. But our river's water supply is limited. Climate predictability is complicated.

Trends Influencing Our River

 

Water SupplyThe river and surrounding reservoirs and streams are the principal source of water for nearly two million people.
Energy DemandThe river provides enough electricity to power nearly 3.7 million homes.
Water DemandThe overall water demand for the entire Basin is expected to increase approximately 120% by 2065.
Climate ChangeProjected climate change estimate a 3.2°F average increase and 11% increase in lake evaporation between now and 2065..
